Regis Men’s Soccer Holds On For 1-0 GNAC Win

BOSTON, Mass. – A goal by Ken Niyonzima (Dracut, Mass.) in the 69th minute held up, as Regis College defeated Emmanuel College, 1-0, Tuesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's soccer match at Roberto Clemente Field.

Niyonzima took half of Regis's six shots during the match, and it was his opportunity with 21:31 remaining in the second half that found the back of the net. It was Niyonzima's second goal of the season, with both goals credited as game-winning tallies.

Jesse Bonilla (Ramona, Calif.) rebounded from a tough outing Saturday at Johnson & Wales, making four saves without allowing a goal for his second 1-0 shutout of the season. His counterpart in the Emmanuel net, Jonathan Ferrarini, was credited with one save for the Saints.

Emmanuel (1-3, 0-1 GNAC) finished with nine total shots as well as the only two corner kicks in the contest. Kyle King led the Saints with three total shots, including two shots on goal, and he nearly converted on a header three minutes into the second half, but Bonilla was able to deflect the ball over the crossbar. Emmanuel nearly tied the game in the final minute of regulation, but a shot by Nick Fierro rocketed off the crossbar before the Pride were able to clear the ball.

Regis (3-1, 1-1 GNAC) heads to West Hartford, Conn., to face the University of Saint Joseph Saturday, Sept. 15, starting at 12 p.m.
