Men's Soccer Sweeps GNAC Weekly Awards

WINTHROP, Mass. - The Regis men's soccer team has swept the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Weekly Awards this week as juniors Derek Triana (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) and Jesse Bonilla (Ramona, Calif.), as well as freshman Fabyanno Furbino (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) took home honors. The sweep, the first time a Regis athletic team has ever claimed three GNAC Weekly Awards in one week, comes on the heels of the Pride's 3-1 conference quarterfinal win over Mount Ida on Sunday.

Triana earned his first GNAC Player of the Week honors last week after a pair of stellar performances in wins over Emerson and, in the conference quarterfinal, Mount Ida. Triana factored into each of the Pride's six goals on the week, with three goals and three assists for nine points. On Monday night in a non-conference win over Emerson, Triana set the Pride's single-season goal and point scoring records with his 14th goal of the season, then scored two second-half goals in the Pride's 3-1 GNAC Quarterfinal win over Mount Ida on the road.

Bonilla, the GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week, was key to the Pride last week, allowing just one goal in two games to lead the Pride to a 2-0 week, including an eight-save performance on Saturday to lift the Pride to a GNAC Quarterfinal win over Mount Ida. Bonilla had a 0.50 goals-against average and .933 and save percentageon the week, stopping 14 of 15 shots. Bonilla earns the award for the second time this season, previously earning the title on Sept. 18.

Furbino rounds out the Pride's sweep by picking up his second Rookie of the Week award of the season. Furbino scored two goals on Monday night as the Pride concluded its regular season with a 3-0 non-conference win over Emerson. He followed up the performance with an assist on the opening goal of the afternoon as the Pride defeated Mount Ida 3-1 in GNAC Quarterfinal action. Previously, Furbino won the award on Sept. 18.

The Pride will look to upset the top-seeded Saint Joseph's Monks in the GNAC Quarterfinals on Wednesday night. Kick-off from Standish, Maine is slated for 7:00 p.m.
