Triana Sets Single Season Scoring Mark, Men’s Soccer Tops Emerson

BOSTON, Mass. - Already with the career scoring record, Derek Triana (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) set a new single season mark with his 14th goal in a 3-0 rout by the Regis (Mass.) men's soccer team at Emerson in non-conference action Monday at Rotch Field. The Pride closes the regular season at 9-7-1 and now turns its attention to Mount Ida in a GNAC quarterfinal matchup on Sunday.

Triana's record-breaking goal came in the 12th minute which proved to be the gamewinner. Taking a pass from Ken Niyonzima (Burlington, Mass.), he drilled a shot into the upper 90 past Lion goalkeeper Lucas Fischer (Atlanta, Ga.).

Fabyano Furbino (Port St. Lucie, Fla.), who looked to be a scratch after an ankle injury suffered against Emmanuel on Saturday, scored the other two goals to help put the game away. In the 34th minute, after Daniel Montoya (Revere, Mass.) broke away down the middle of the pitch, he slipped a pass to an open Furbino in the left side of the box who fired a shot past Fischer's reach.

In the 84th minute, Furbino notched his second goal of the game after he caught Fischer out of position and fired the ball into the lower right hand corner.

Pride keeper Jesse Bonilla (Ramona, Calif.) bookended the regular season with his second shutout, making six saves in a near full 90 minutes of action. Fischer posted three saves in net for Emerson (4-10-2).

Regis will have five full days off before its quarterfinal matchup at Mount Ida on Sunday, Oct. 29. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. Emerson concludes its regular season campaign on Saturday, Oct. 28 and welcomes MIT for a NEWMAC tilt slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
