Men's Soccer Plays to Senior Day Draw

WESTON, Mass. - Junior Derek Triana (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) matched the single-season Regis (Mass.) men's soccer goal-scoring record with his 13th goal of the season on Saturday afternoon as the Pride played the visiting Emmanuel College Saints to a 1-1 double overtime draw in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Regis Stadium.

With the draw, the Pride moves to 8-7-1 on the season and ends the GNAC regular season at 5-4-1 in conference play. The Saints move to 3-7-7 overall and 3-2-5 in the GNAC.

Triana opened the scoring for the Pride in the game's 20th minute. Sophomore Ken Niyonzima (Burlington, Mass.) found Triana in the middle of the box after dancing around an on-surging Emmanuel goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrarini (Hanover, Mass.), allowing Triana to tap the ball into the open net to give the Pride a 1-0 lead. Triana's 13th goal tied the program record set by Steve Tavares '13 during the 2012 season.

The Pride still led 1-0 in the 78th minute when freshman Troy Shay (San Diego, Calif.) headed home his first collegiate goal to even the score for the Saints. Freshman Justin Wentworth (China, Maine) crossed a ball into the box from the right corner, and Shay scored uncontested to tie the game.

Freshman Fabyanno Furbino (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) appeared to tie the game in the 88th minute after heading home a cross from Sal Madera (Rocky Hill, Conn.), but the goal was called back on an offside call, sending the game to overtime for the sixth time this season for the Pride and the eighth time for the Saints.

Emmanuel outshot the Pride 3-2 in the two overtime periods, but neither team mounted a significant offensive threat. The Pride's Jesse Bonilla (Ramona, Calif.) turned away the only shot on goal of the overtime periods for either team. Bonilla picked up the draw in goal for the Pride making four total saves, while Ferrarini made seven stops for the Saints.

Next up for the Pride, they wrap up their regular season with a non-conference matchup on Monday afternoon against Emerson College. The Saints play their final regular season game on Wednesday, taking on WPI on the road.
