Men's Soccer Shut Out by JWU

WESTON, Mass. - Johnson & Wales scored three first half goals on Wednesday afternoon, leading them past the Regis (Mass.) men's soccer team by a final score of 4-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Regis Stadium.

With the win, the Wildcats move to 11-1-1 overall and 5-1-1 in GNAC play. The Pride drops its third straight match, moving to 7-6-0 overall and 4-4-0 in the GNAC.

Just 49 seconds into the match, the Wildcats jumped out to an early advantage on Jozef Jennings' (Barrington, R.I.) fourth goal of the season. Off a feed from Yohann Assouramarou (Cotonou, Benin), Jennings released a laser from 25 yards out that curled past the fingertips of a diving Jesse Bonilla (Ramona, Calif.), banging off the post and into the net to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.

JWU extended its lead to 2-0 on an eerily similar goal in the 23rd minute. Junior Teagan Drake (Waterbury, Vt.) picked up a pass from Andrew Vecere (Wayne, N.J.) and fired a bullet into the same corner of the net past Bonilla for the two-goal lead. Vacere would add a goal of his own in the 36th minute to give the Wildcats a 3-0 advantage going to the half.

Johnson & Wales added an insurance marker in the 80th minute when freshman Jazario Brimmer (Pembroke, Bermuda) tallied his second goal of the season to round out the 4-0 victory for the Wildcats.

Bonilla got credited with the loss for the Pride, making nine saves on the afternoon. The win went to Nicholas Mancini (Toms River, N.J.) of the Wildcats with four saves in the shutout.

The Pride will return to action on Saturday, taking a break from GNAC play to host Pine Manor College at 12:00 p.m. The Wildcats will be hosting conference foe Anna Maria at 2:30 p.m. the same afternoon.
