Men's Soccer Falls To Roger Williams In Non-Conference Action

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis (Mass.) men's soccer team took a break from conference play, hosting Roger Williams but coming up short in a 3-0 loss to the Hawks, Monday at Regis Stadium.

The Pride (4-2) battled all game long but were unable to generate much attack. Reigning GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week Jesse Bonilla (Ramona, Calif.) had all he could handle making nine saves off 22 RWU shots. Nick Nelson (Madison, Conn.) dealt with just a pair of Regis shots in posting the shutout.

After several chances to score, Roger Williams (5-0-2) got on the board midway through the first half. Resulting from a corner kick, John McCarthy (Torrington, Conn.) took advantage of a rebound off a Bonilla save, punching the ball into the back of the net to give the Hawks the lead in the 22nd minute.

The lead carried into the break but midway through the second half the Pride were able to possess and play in Roger Williams' half. Regis had several opportunities in the attacking third but eventually the Hawks turned the tide again in their favor, scoring two goals in the final 10 minutes to put the game out of reach.

Sean Janson (Avon, Conn.) put the Hawks up 2-0 with a goal in the 84th minute, scoring off a free kick at the top of the box that was earned on a Regis handball. Charlie Mader (Scarborough, Me.) then put the game out of reach with his goal in the 89th minute. With the ball at his feet just outside the penalty area, he took a touch inside and ripped a shot over Bonilla's outstretched arm and just under the bar to complete the scoring.

Weather permitting, Regis returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 20 hosting Mount Ida at 4:00 p.m. at Regis Stadium. The Hawks next play Wednesday as well, traveling to Wheaton for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff.
