Men's Soccer Shuts Out Eastern Nazarene to Open Season

QUINCY, Mass.- Junior Derek Triana (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) scored a pair of goals in the second half on Saturday night as the Regis (Mass.) men's soccer team picked up a 3-0 win over Eastern Nazarene in its season opener under the lights at Veterans' Memorial Stadium.

The Lions slide to 0-2-0 on the season with the result while the Pride improves to 1-0-0 overall.

The visitors nabbed a 1-0 edge in the 38th minute as Grayson Owens (Marshfield, Mass.) booted in his first goal of the season off of an assist from rookie Fabyanno Furbino (Port St. Lucie, Fla.).

Eastern Nazarene attempted six shots in the opening stanza while Regis notched eight shots.

The Pride doubled its lead to 2-0 in the 53rd minute.  Triana's left-footed effort from the top of the box curled just inside the left post for his first marker of the season.

The guests tacked on their third goal of the match in the 67th minute to widen the gap to 3-0. Triana bagged his second tally of the night as he poked a rebound into the back of the cage.

The Lions conclude the contest with seven shots while Regis generated 18 on the night. Junior Joao Costa (Framingham, Mass.) fired a team-high four shots in the game, including one effort that ricocheted off the post.

Rookie Tim Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.) posted five saves in his second start of the season in goal for the Lions. Junior goalkeeper Jesse Bonilla (Ramona, Calif.) earned his first win in a Regis uniform on the night, making one save in 83 minutes between the pipes. In seven minutes in relief, Andrew Barros (Malden, Mass.) made one save to preserve the shutout. 

Up next, Eastern Nazarene hits the road for a non-conference tussle at nationally-ranked Amherst Tuesday, while the Pride will play Lesley in its home opener on Wednesday.
