REGIS DROPS ROAD CONTEST AT EMERSON

REGIS DROPS ROAD CONTEST AT EMERSON

BOSTON, Mass. – Two goals from Jon Havens (Williamsport, Penn.) and a nightcap by Austin Alphonse (Durham, N.H.) gave the Emerson College men's soccer team a 3-0 win Tuesday night in their home opener over Regis. With the win, the Lions are now 1-1 on the year, while the Pride fall to 0-2 on the young season.

Regis was led by sophomore Christian Mukala (Malden, Mass.) and senior Ricardo Argueta (Los Angeles, Calif.), who each recorded a shot on goal in the contest. Senior goalkeeper Stefan Todorovic (Los Angeles, Calif.) also had eight saves to lead the Pride.

The first half saw the Lions take the lead only a couple minutes into the match, as Havens put up a cross to Ole Eriksen (Asker, Norway) that was tapped into the net by a Regis player to make it 1-0. The Lions outshot the Pride nine to three in the half before adding to their lead with Havens striking again. Adam Halliday (Malvern, Penn.) set up a cross that Havens pocketed in the top right corner.

The Lions were able to sneak another one past Regis in the 85th minute of action as Eriksen placed a ball through the middle that Alphonse took the rest of the way on a breakaway to make it the 3-0 final.

The Lions will return to action this week as they travel to Suffolk on Saturday, Sept. 7 for a 6 p.m. match up against the Rams in Boston, Mass, while Regis will host Lasell at 1:00 p.m., also on Saturday.
