WESTON, Mass. – Three first half goals by visiting Emerson College proved to be too much for the Pride to overcome, as the Lions went on to win by a score of 4-1 on Saturday morning at Regis Stadium. The win marks the first of the season for Emerson, who improves to 1-2, while the loss drops Regis to 1-3 on the year.
Junior forward Jon Havens (Williamsport, Pa.) scored two unassisted goals within the first ten minutes of the contest, and Emerson was able to jump to a quick 2-0 lead. With each goal, Havens was able to collect the ball in the box and slip it just past goalkeeper Chris Campbell (South Hadley, Mass.), who was credited with the loss and finished the game with one save.
Regis responded minutes later when midfielder Angel Aguilar (Silver Spring, Md.) sent a long ball to a streaking Steve Tavares (Bellingham, Mass.), who received the pass and took a low, hard shot that beat goalkeeper Jacob Sigler (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) for his team-leading fifth goal of the season. Jacob made four saves on the day for Emerson.
Unfortunately for the Pride, Emerson was able to tack another one on to the scoreboard less than five minutes later when Adam Halliday (Malvern, Pa.) one-timed a cross from Jacob Lawrence (Clifton, Va.) into the back of the net for a 3-1 lead.
Emerson would finish out the scoring for the day in the 60-th minute of play. Lawrence picked off a pass from the Regis defense and dribbled in for a shot from the 18 yard line that Campbell was unable to get a handle on.
Regis was led by Tavares and sophomore Ricardo Argueta (Los Angeles, Calif.), who each took four shots during the contest. Freshman Dillon Lanctot (Somersworth, N.H.) also had a strong showing for the Pride after relieving Campbell. Lanctot made four saves coming off the bench.
Regis will be back in action on Wednesday when the team travels to New Hampshire for a 4:00 p.m. showdown with the Pilgrims of New England College.
