Men’s Lacrosse Collects Second Straight Win, 14-7

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College raced out to a significant lead halfway through the opening period and then maintained that advantage the rest of the way to defeat Mitchell College, 14-7, Wednesday night in a non-conference men's collegiate lacrosse match at Regis Stadium.

Brent Young (Feeding Hills, Mass.) scored a career-high five goals and added two assists to tie his career collegiate best with seven points. Ryan Richardson (Corona, Calif.) also notched a hat trick with three goals, and Michael Daras (Danvers, Mass.) contributed two goals and two assists.

Just over two minutes into the match, Regis scored first, as Richardson picked up his eighth goal of the season. A little more than a minute later, Rocco Geary (Salem, Mass.) found Blake Johnson (Oviedo, Fla.) in front of the net for Johnson's second tally of the season, and then Young scored four unanswered goals in the span of 2:20 to extend the Pride advantage to 6-0.

Mitchell finally broke through with 7:04 remaining in the first quarter on a goal by James Giovanniello. The play went back and forth for the next three minutes before Young assisted on a tally from Brian Wagner (Melrose, Mass.) to give the Pride a 7-1 lead heading into the second quarter.

Ethan LePain produced Mitchell's second goal of the night early in the second period, but the Pride quickly responded with goals by Brendon Donahue (Lynn, Mass.) and Young just 43 seconds apart. Late in the quarter, the Mariners put together sustained offense, using goals by Jade Shields and LePain to cut the Regis advantage to 9-4 at halftime.

The Pride quickly took advantage of a Mitchell penalty early in the third quarter, as Young fed Richardson for a man-up goal two minutes into the period. Richardson completed his hat trick with a goal three minutes later, but the Mariners stayed in the match thanks to a goal by Jonathan Urrutia 29 seconds later.

Daras closed out the third quarter scoring with a goal off a Wagner assist. In the fourth quarter, Mitchell scored twice within 57 seconds on tallies by LePain and Shields, but Regis would finish off the match with goals by Johnson and Daras late in the fourth quarter.

LePain led the Mariners with a hat trick, while Shields finished with two goals and one assist. Gregory DeCarlo started in goal for Mitchell and made six saves in 23 minutes before Marcel Quinlan took over and collected 16 saves in 37 minutes of action.

Nick Penta (Andover, Mass.) continued his strong play in net for the Pride, earning 14 saves and a .667 save percentage during the night. Daras and Geary led Regis with six ground balls apiece, while Donahue ended up 8-for-13 on faceoffs.
