Regis Men’s Lacrosse Loses in Snowy Conditions

PAXTON, Mass. – With snow falling and sticking to the ground for part of the game, Regis College fell to Anna Maria College, 17-8, Tuesday evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's lacrosse match at AMCAT Field.

Michael Tremblay (Arlington, Mass.) scored a career-high four goals to lead the Pride offense, while Brian Wagner (Melrose, Mass.) contributed two goals and three assists. Regis goalie JJ LaRose (Litchfield, N.H.) finished with a season-high 16 saves as the AMCATS outshot the Pride, 52-25, including a 33-19 advantage in shots on goal.

It took some time for either team to get on the board, as LaRose made four saves and Anna Maria goalie Paul Schwarz turned away a shot by Michael Daras (Danvers, Mass.) within the first nine minutes of the game. The AMCATS broke through as Kory Fortier found Brandon Pavoni for his 30th goal of the season, but that would be the only tally of the opening quarter, as each goalie made two more saves.

Anna Maria (4-8, 2-3 GNAC) needed just 26 seconds to score in the second quarter, as Eric Glover scored off an assist by Cameron Perry. Glover scored another goal three minutes later, and Tim Harrington picked up a goal 31 seconds later to increase the AMCAT lead to 4-0.

After Nick Massaro scored to give the AMCATS a 5-0 advantage, the Pride finally broke through, as Wagner scored his 10th goal of the season. Glover completed his hat trick two minutes later, starting a four-goal surge for the AMCATS in the span of 2:27. Daras found Tremblay for his 10th goal of the season right before halftime, cutting the Regis deficit to 9-2.

Daras scored the first goal of the third quarter, but Anna Maria responded with three goals in the span of 1:26. After Tremblay picked up his second goal of the match, the AMCATS once again scored three unanswered goals before Tremblay closed out the third quarter scoring.

The AMCATS took their biggest lead of the night early in the fourth quarter at 16-5 after a man-up tally by Ryan Rockwal, but the Pride cut into that advantage with three straight goals by Jesse Bedon (Wallingford, Conn.), Wagner, and Tremblay. Isaiah Hickes scored in the final minute of the contest for Anna Maria.

Glover led the AMCATS with five goals, while Rockwal also notched a hat trick with three goals. Pavoni finished with two goals and four assists, and Perry and Massaro ended up with two goals and two assists apiece. Schwarz picked up the victory in net after making nine saves in the first three quarters, while Griffin Moore played the fourth quarter in net and was credited with two saves.

Anna Maria won 17-of-27 faceoffs, was 3-for-6 on extra-man opportunities, and was successful on 21-of-23 clearing attempts. The AMCATS next face Emmanuel at home Thursday, April 11, at 7 p.m.

Regis (3-5, 0-5 GNAC) hosts Norwich Saturday, April 13, beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Regis Stadium. Before the match, the seniors will be recognized in a Senior Day presentation. Also, the team has designated the game as the One Love match, bringing awareness to the One Love Foundation and the issue of relationship violence among young people.
