Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Saint Joseph’s College

WESTON, Mass. – After trading goals with Saint Joseph's College early in the first quarter, Regis College could not keep up with the Monks, as the visitors defeated the Pride, 15-1, Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's lacrosse match at Regis Stadium.

Saint Joseph's (8-2, 3-0 GNAC) struck two minutes into the game on an unassisted goal by Zack Hamilton. Brian Wagner (Melrose, Mass.) followed with his own unassisted goal just 42 seconds later to tie the match at 1-1.

The Monks would score three goals in the span of 36 seconds, starting with a tally by Shane Puleo and capped by consecutive goals from Michael Finn. Zac LaRoche would score one-and-a-half minutes later to give Saint Joseph's a 5-1 advantage heading into the second quarter.

Goals by Brendan Martin and Tyler Brewster in the second quarter extended the Monk lead to 7-1 at halftime. In the second half, Saint Joseph's scored eight goals, half of them by Finn, while not allowing any goals by the Pride as Monk goalie Logan Skinner played the entire match and finished with nine saves, including six saves in the third quarter.

George Nicolopoulos (Windham, N.H.) led the Pride with seven ground balls, followed by Brendon Donahue (Lynn, Mass.) with six ground balls. JJ LaRose (Litchfield, N.H.) collected 11 saves during the match, the second time this season he has earned at least 10 saves in a single contest.

The Pride won 12-of-19 faceoffs, led by Donahue with 11 faceoffs in 17 opportunities. Regis was 12-of-16 on clearing chances, while the Monks failed on just two clearing situations in 21 chances. Saint Joseph's outshot Regis, 39-19, including 26-10 in shots on goal.

Regis (2-4, 0-4 GNAC) hosts Thomas College Wednesday, April 3, starting at 4 p.m. Saint Joseph's, now with a seven-match winning streak, travels to play Southern Maine Monday, April 1, at 4 p.m.
