Men's Lacrosse Closes Season with Win

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) men's lacrosse team got its largest offensive output of the season on Wednesday afternoon as the Pride defeated Albertus Magnus 17-14 in both teams' season finale at a rainy Regis Stadium.

With the win, the Pride closes its season at 4-11 and 2-7 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, while Albertus Magnus finishes at 2-12, 0-9 GNAC.

The teams played a tight first quarter, as a goal from Albertus Magnus freshman Jordan Garguilo (West Haven, Conn.) with 2:31 left in the quarter drew the Falcons to within one at 4-3. The Pride pulled away with a big 8-2 edge in the second quarter to go to the break at 12-5.

Albertus Magnus drew back to within striking distance with a big third quarter, outscoring the hosts 5-1 to draw back to within three at 13-10. Garguilo scored two of his team-high five goals in the quarter.

James May (Branford, Conn.) and Mykel Stinson (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored back to back goals for the Falcons in the opening 3:32 of the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 13-12, but the Pride would respond with a 5-1 run to put the game out of reach. Freshman Michael Daras (Danvers, Mass.) scored four of his game-high seven goals during the run to help the Pride put the ballgame out of reach.

Daras was one of three players to net hat tricks for the Pride on the afternoon with seven goals and two assists in the win. Freshman Brent Young (Feeding Hills, Mass.) had a big game of his own, netting four goals and two assists, and senior Collin Spillane closed out his college career with a three-goal, two-assist outing.

Freshman Nick Penta (Andover, Mass.) got the win in goal for the Pride, making 10 saves in the victory. The loss went to Albertus Magnus senior Jack Kerner (Merrick, N.Y.), despite his 13 saves.
