Men’s Lacrosse Tops Emmanuel In Overtime

WESTON, Mass.Collin Spillane (Franklin, Mass.) scored the final of his game-high five goals with 2:27 remaining in overtime to lift the Regis (Mass.) men's lacrosse team to an exciting 11-10 win over Emmanuel in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Monday at Regis Stadium.

Regis (3-5, 1-1 GNAC) had rallied after a slow start to take an 8-4 lead in the fourth period but the Saints battled back to grab a 9-8 lead with 6:24 to play. Spillane was vital in pushing the game to overtime, twice scoring with a man advantage in the final two minutes of regulation, the last to tie the game with 32 seconds remaining.

Alex Flanagan (Westford, Mass.) had four goals to lead Emmanuel who is still in search of its first win of the season now 0-7 and 0-2 in the GNAC. Flanagan's goal with 1:29 remaining in regulation put the Saints up 10-9 but Spillane countered with his game tying score.

Nick Penta (Andover, Mass.) spelled JJ LaRose (Litchfield, N.H.) in the first half and finished the game with eight saves on 14 Emmanuel shots. Austin Rosenberg (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) played every minute for the Saints in taking the loss, posting eight saves on 19 shots.

Although good stretches of the opening period were played in front of the Regis net, Emmanuel was only able to put one in on a Charlie Moran (Maitland, Fla.) goal, but it was enough to take a 1-0 lead into the second quarter.

The differential remained the same heading to halftime with the Saints up 4-3, but the third quarter belonged to the Pride. AJ Karofsky (Barrington, R.I.) netted a pair of goals to help Regis go up 7-4 after holding Emmanuel goalless. Karofsky scored again to open the fourth period but five straight goals from the Saints gave them their first lead since the second quarter.

The Pride returns to action on Wednesday, Mar. 4 with a 4:00 p.m. game at Norwich. Emmanuel plays at Saint Joseph's (Me.) the same day with a 7:00 p.m. start time.
