Men’s Lacrosse Upended In Road Loss To Rivier

NASHUA, N.H. - Danny Rancano (Miami, Fla.) had a team-high two goals with one assist and Brian Wagner (Melrose, Mass.) scooped up a team-high five ground balls but it wasn't enough as the Regis (Mass.) men's lacrosse team dropped its league opener, a 13-5 defeat at Rivier in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Wednesday night at Raider Field.

The Pride (2-5, 0-1 GNAC) was held scoreless in quarters one and three and fell behind 8-1 entering halftime. Joe Kelland scored just 41 seconds into the game with Eric Guinasso scoring two of his game-high three goals before the break. Rancano got the Pride on the board with his unassisted goal with 9:19 to play in the half but Dylan McSparren's score with five seconds remaining lifted the Rivier (2-5, 1-0 GNAC) advantage to seven goals.

The Raiders would push the lead to 10 goals after the Pride's scoreless third period but Regis would find the back of the net in the fourth quarter, but just too little too late. The Pride took advantage of Rivier penalties midway through the final period as Wagner, Brent Young (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Collin Spillane (Franklin, Mass.) all scored with a man up. Rancano scored with seven seconds remaining to complete the scoring.

Nick Penta (Andover, Mass.) posted 11 saves in net for the Pride on 24 Rivier shots with Matt Cloutman registering 14 saves for the Raiders.

The Pride returns to action Monday, Apr. 2 with a home game vs. Emmanuel at 4:00 p.m. while Rivier visits Albertus Magnus on Saturday, Mar. 31 for a 1:00 p.m. start time.
