Men's Lacrosse Doubled Up By Salem State

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis (Mass.) men's lacrosse team looked to get back on the winning track but came up short, posting its lowest scoring output of the season in a 10-5 loss to Salem State Saturday afternoon at Regis Stadium.

JJ LaRose (Litchfield, N.H.) had a solid day in goal for the Pride (2-4), posting 16 saves on 26 Viking shots while Brian Wagner (Melrose, Mass.) provided what proved to be limited offense for Regis with his team-high three goals. AJ Karofsky (Barrington, R.I.) and Collin Spillane (Franklin, Mass.) shared team-high honors each with three ground balls.

For Salem State (2-4), Charlie Bourgeois (Billerica, Mass.) shared game-high honors with Wagner with three goals while also scooping up five ground balls. Zack LeRose (Lincoln, R.I.) added five ground balls of his own with Zach Persson (Danvers, Mass.) adding two goals.

The Pride scored the game's first goal when Wagner took a pass from Brent Young (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and fired a shot past Viking goalie Chris Schaub (Brewster, N.Y.). Salem State responded with four goals, two by Bourgeois, to lead 4-1 after one period. Schaub made 13 saves on the afternoon.

The second quarter saw Bourgeois add his third just 40 seconds into the period to bump the lead up to four goals. Wagner and Danny Rancano (Miami, Fla.) both scored to close the half but it were the Vikings who carried a 7-3 lead into the break.

Goals were at a premium in the second half as Salem State held Regis to just two, both in the third quarter while pumping in three of its own.

Next up for the Pride is its first-ever Great Northeast Athletic Conference game which takes place Tuesday, Mar. 28 at Rivier. SSU hosts Dean College the same day with a 3:30 p.m. start time.
