Men's Lacrosse Falls To UMass-Boston

 

WESTON, Mass.Danny Rancano (Miami, Fla.) scored a hat trick and added two assists but it wasn't enough as the Regis (Mass.) men's lacrosse team fell 22-9 to UMass-Boston Thursday afternoon at Regis Stadium. The Pride fell to 2-3 while the Beacons evened their record at 3-3.

AJ Karofsky (Barrington, R.I.) and Collin Spillane (Franklin, Mass.) both added a pair of goals with Brian Wagner (Melrose, Mass.) adding a team-high three assists. Joe Mauceri (Scituate, Mass.) led the Beacon effort netting a game-high five goals with teammate Jacob Sinclair-Steeves (North Reading, Mass.) scooping up 14 ground balls, also a match-high.

Despite the loss, the Pride ended the opening quarter even with UMB at 4-4. A pair of early Beacon goals from Mauceri put his team up 3-1 with 8:49 to play but Regis scored three answered goals, two by Spillane with a man advantage to grab a 4-3 lead.

The Beacons outscored the Pride 8-1 in the second quarter to take control of the game. Adam Cariveau (Hudson, Mass.) scored back-to-back goals, the second from Tre Mason (Kelowna, B.C.), with a man advantage to help UMB to a 9-4 lead with 7:46 to play until halftime.

The Beacons held the Pride scoreless in the third quarter while scoring five goals of their own. Rancano scored a pair of goals, both assisted by Wagner, in the final period but it wasn't enough for a Pride rally.

Nick Penta (Andover, Mass.) played three quarters in goal for the Pride, making 13 saves while also leading his team with five groundballs. JJ LaRose (Litchfield, N.H.) played the final period and tallied three saves. Cameron Dixson (Wayland, Mass.) and Alex Fawcett (Londonderry, N.H.) each played a half in net for the Beacons with Dixson making one first-half save and Fawcett two in his second half appearance.

Next up for the Pride is a host matchup with Salem State on Saturday, Mar. 24 at 12:00 p.m. UMB visits Rivier on Saturday as well with a 1:00 p.m. start time.
