Men's Lacrosse Tops Mitchell, Finishes With Perfect NECC Record

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Regis (Mass.) men's lacrosse team closed the regular season on a high note, beating Mitchell College 17-9, Saturday at Alumni Field. The win was the Pride's largest offensive output of the season and secures an undefeated NECC mark for the second straight season.

Calvin Brault (Colchester, Vt.) and AJ Karofsky (Barrington, R.I.) each scored four goals and added two assists to lead the way for Regis (5-9 overall, 4-0 NECC). Kyle Marsh (Oakdale, Conn.) and Jacob Setzko (Farmington, Conn.) paced the Mariners (2-9 overall, 1-3 NECC) with three goals apiece.

The first 15 minutes of the contest was tight as each team found the back of the net once. Brandon Mehler (Bay Shore, N.Y.) provided the game's first goal less than four minutes in off a feed from Nick Romig (Dedham, Mass./Dedham). Mitchell answered just over two minutes later when Marsh scored with a man advantage to even the score at 1-1.

Regis outscored Mitchell 10-1 in the second quarter to seize control. Karofsky netted a hat trick in the period while Brault and Danny Rancano (Miami, Fla.) added two scores apiece.

The Pride led 11-2 at intermission and upped the margin to as many as 12 in the second half. The Mariners held a 5-1 scoring edge in the final stanza, but by that point it was too late.

Regis goalie D.J. Barrile (Medford, Mass.) made three saves and allowed two goals in the first half. Tyler Estes (Geneva, Ill.) took his place for the final 30 minutes and recorded five stops. Mitchell goalie JD LeMay (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) made 13 saves against 48 shots.
