Men’s Lacrosse Suffers Second Straight Overtime Defeat

WESTON, Mass.Alex Ferran (Miami, Fla.) scored three goals and tallied an assist but it came in a losing effort as the Regis (Mass.) men's lacrosse team dropped its second straight overtime defeat, 9-8 to Rivier Wednesday at Regis Stadium.

Regis (1-6, 0-0 NECC) held a 7-5 advantage through three quarters but was unable to hold the lead, falling behind by a goal midway through the final quarter. Zach Leighton's (Wilmington, Mass.) goal from Danny Rancano (Miami, Fla.) with 5:28 to play tied the score at 8-8 which proved to be the final regulation play goal.

Sean Brady (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored the sudden victory goal with 1:58 to play in overtime to lift the Raiders (4-3, 0-0 GNAC) to the win, fielding a pass from Nick Wolfrom (Pelham, N.H.) and firing a shot past Pride goalie D.J. Barrile (Medford, Mass.). Barille had a solid outing making 13 saves on 47 Rivier shots.

Brady finished the game with three goals and two assists for a game-high eight points. Joe Kelland (Watertown, Mass.) added a pair of goals and an assist.

Rivier held Regis scoreless through one quarter and led 3-0 after Brady's goal with 12:32 to play until halftime. The Pride responded with four straight goals, two from AJ Karofsky (Barrington, R.I.) to take a 4-3 lead into the break.

The Pride was minus-three in the turnover department and even in groundballs with 27.

Regis next plays at Johnson & Wales (RI) Monday, Apr. 3 at 4:00 p.m. River is next in action at JWU as well, taking on the Wildcats Saturday, Apr. 1 at 1:00 p.m.
