Men's Lacrosse Upended At Western Connecticut

DANBURY, Conn. - A.J. Karofsky (Barrington, RI) posted two goals and two assists but it wasn't enough as the Regis (Mass.) men's lacrosse team fell to Western Connecticut State University 16-7 at The Westside Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.

Senior goalie Patrick Tynan (Somers, CT) registered 14 saves in net before yielding to Zach Craybas (Bethel, CT) for the final 7:13. Craybas turned away four shots in relief.

Sophomore Robert Swensen (Danbury, CT) recorded a hat-trick for the winners.

The Colonials raced out to a 7-0 lead in the opening minutes of the second quarter. Swensen capped off the early barrage with his fifth goal of the year at the 13:39 mark of the second stanza.

Calvin Brault (Colchester, VT) scored an unassisted goal for the Pride (0-4) at the midway point of the period to cut his teams deficit to 7-3. They would not get closer than four goals the rest of the way.

Five other WestConn players notched a goal on Saturday. Cullen Roberts (Somers, CT), Johnnie Ward (Mahopac, NY), Sean Tynan (Somers, CT), Ryan Reuling (Groton, CT) and Richard Pitman (Southbury, CT) found the net for the winners.

D. J. Barrile (Medford, MA) withstood 55 shots in the frigid weather and wound up with 21 saves for Regis.

Regis next takes the field Wednesday, Mar. 22 hosting Mt. Ida at 4:00 p.m. WestConn travels to Rosemont College in Pennsylvania for a non-league game on Saturday, March 25. Face off with the Ravens is set for 3:00 p.m.
