REGIS FALLS TO BARD, 8-7 IN THIRD OVERTIME

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Regis College men's lacrosse team scored with 49 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime, but Bard College would go on to win the game, 8-7 after freshman Henry Blosfelds (Delran, N.J.) supplied the winning goal in the the third overtime period.

Blosfelds scored three times in the second quarter, as the Raptors (5-5) had a confortable 6-2 lead at halftime. Nicky Rodrigo (Miami, Fla.) and Matt Vogan (Billerica, Mass.) tallied the lone goals of the half for the Pride, who fall to 9-5 on the season.

Coming out of the break, Regis began to chip away at the lead and climb their way back into the contest. Vogan cut the lead to 6-3 - off a feed from Rodrigo - in the first minute of the third quarter. Five minutes later, Billy Stewart (West Roxbury, Mass.) made it a 6-4 game.

George Goceljak (Flemington, N.J.) pushed the lead back to three with an unassisted goal with just over a minute left in the third quarter, making it a 7-4 affair entering the fourth quarter.

Junior Peter Leighton (Wilmington, Mass.) scored a man-down goal - from Rodrigo - in the first minute of the fourth quarter before adding a second tally to make the score 7-6 with 13:27 remaining in the game.

It stayed 7-6 until the final minute, when Leighton found Stewart alone on a back-door play, and Stewart slid it past John Henry Glascock (East Brunswick, N.J.) to tie it with 49 seconds left.

Glascock made two saves in the first overtime and three in the second overtime, while Bard managed just one shot on goal in both sessions. In the third overtime, however, Blosfelds got the ball on a restart after a Raptor time out, used a pick at the top and got the ball to his right hand. The switch defensively gave Blosfelds the opening he needed, and he beat Breandan Crane (Billerica, Mass.) low to give the home team the victory.

Leighton had two goals and two assists, Vogan had two goals and one assist, and Rodrigo had one goal and two assists for the Pride. Crane made 18 saves in net.

Blosfelds finished with four goals, Mat Livermore (Wilbraham, Mass.) scored twice, while Joao Rosa (Medford, Mass.) and Goceljak added single goals for Bard. DJ Peters (Yorktown, N.Y.) had three assists and Glascock made 16 saves.

After a short break, Regis welcomes Mass.-Boston on Thursday, April 24 for a 5 p.m. non-league game. The Pride will also celebrate Senior Day.
