REGIS DOWNS GMC, 18-2 FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

REGIS DOWNS GMC, 18-2 FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's lacrosse team scored the first seven goals of the game and never looked back, cruising to a convincing 18-2 win over visiting Green Mountain College on a cold Tuesday evening at Regis Stadium. With the victory, the Pride have won three straight games and improve to 4-2 on the season. Green Mountain falls to 0-4 on the year.

Nine different players recorded at least a point for the Crimson & Gold, who were paced by a four goal and two assist effort by sophomore attack Nicky Rodrigo (Miami, Fla.). Junior Peter Leighton (Wilmington, Mass.) chipped in with two goals and three assists, while senior Matt Vogan (Billerica, Mass.) and senior Billy Stewart (West Roxbury, Mass.) each had a hat trick in the win.

Sophomore Jack O'Brien (Milton, Mass.) and freshman Brandon Mehler (Bay Shore, N.Y.) also had strong games for Regis, going a combined 20-for-23 on face-offs and scooping up a combined 15 ground-balls.

Andrew O'Reilly (Hollis, N.H.) opened up the scoring at the 11:13 mark after receiving a pass from Rodrigo up top and taking a low bounce shot that beat goalkeeper Luke Carey (Brooklyn, Mass.). O'Reilly's tally would spark a 7-0 run to open up the game, a run which stretched into the 11:54 minute of the second quarter. Leighton, Rodrigo, Vogan, and Stewart all found the back of the net during the Pride run.

Nick Parsons (Amory, Miss.) broke the scoreless drought for the Eagles at the 11:40 mark of the second quarter after receiving a pass on the goal line from Charlie Petrick (Henniker, N.H.) and firing a shot into the top right corner of the net.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, the Pride would go on to score five more goals before halftime to take a 12-1 lead into the break. Vogan and Rodrigo each scored a pair of those goals, while Stewart added the fifth with 46 seconds remaining in the quarter off of an assist by Chris Campbell (South Hadley, Mass.).

The second stanza was much of the same story, as the Pride continued to pepper Parsons with shots. Stewart scored on a pass from Peter Fucci (Amherst, N.H.), sandwiched in between a pair of unassisted Campbell goals, as Regis stretched their lead to 15-1.

Parsons scored his second of the night for Green Mountain with 2:17 remaining in the third quarter to make it a 15-2 game, but Regis closed out the contest with three more unanswered goals for the final 18-2 score.

O'Reilly scored his second goal just 44 seconds into the final quarter, with an assist coming from Fucci. Junior midfielder Axel Acosta (Hamden, Conn.) then buried his first collegiate goal after receiving a pass from Campbell, followed by an unassisted goal by Nick Dallas (Huntington Beach, Calif.) for the final tally of the evening.

Carey finished with 13 saves for the Eagles, while Breandan Crane (Billerica, Mass.), D.J. Barrile (Medford, Mass.), and Tyler Estes (Geneva, Ill.) each made four saves in goal for the Pride, who close out a five game home-stand on Saturday afternoon when they host Maine Farmington for a 1 p.m. non-conference game on the turf.

Green Mountain will also return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. for a non-conference game at New England College.
