LEIGHTON & RODRIGO SWEEP NECC WEEKLY AWARDS

WESTON, Mass. – Sophomore Peter Leighton (Wilmington, Mass.) and freshman Nicky Rodrigo (Miami, Fla.) of the Regis College men's lacrosse team have been named this week's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as it was announced by the league's offices on Monday morning. This marks the first NECC Player of the Week honor of Leighton's career, while Rodrigo captures Rookie of the Week honors for the second consecutive week and third time overall this season.

Leighton notched seven points to lead his team to a 13-5 victory over Daniel Webster on Thursday in the Pride's lone game of the week. The sophomore attack scored three goals, made four assists, and had three ground balls to help secure the victory for the Pride. Rodrigo added five points for the Pride to help secure the win. The freshman attack scored three goals, dished out two assists, had two ground balls, and forced three caused turnovers in the victory for Regis.

Through eight games this season, Rodrigo currently leads the Pride with 28 points from 15 goals and 13 assists. Leighton, who has played in seven games this year, ranks second among the team with 25 points this season on 13 goals and 12 assists.

The Pride will be back in action on Wednesday, April 3 when they host Springfield for a 6:00 p.m. Pilgrim League game.
