WINTHROP, Mass. - After leading Regis College to two important victories over the past week, sophomore forward Russell Rau (Fitchburg, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week and first-year forward Jamir Harvey (Robbins, Ill.) has received GNAC Rookie of the Week honors, announced Monday, Feb. 13, by the league office.
Last Wednesday against Lasell, Rau scored a career-high 33 points, the third-highest single-game total in program history, on 13-for-19 field goal shooting, including 7-for-10 from behind the three-point line. Both the 13 made field goals and seven made three-pointers are tied for second-most in a single game.
Saturday against Albertus Magnus, Rau once again led the Pride with 20 points and eight rebounds as Regis defeated the Falcons for the first time in program history. It was the ninth time this season Rau has scored at least 20 points in a game, half of the 18 times he has reached double figures in scoring in 2022-23.
Harvey earns his second straight and fourth overall GNAC weekly award after averaging 17.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game last week. Wednesday against Lasell, he notched his second consecutive double-double with 16 points and a season-high 13 rebounds as he hit 8-of-12 field goal attempts.
In Saturday's game against Albertus Magnus, Harvey shot 7-for-10 from the field on his way to an 18-point, eight-rebound effort, plus he dished out a season-high five assists against the Falcons. Harvey is now fourth in the GNAC in field goal percentage at 56.9 percent, including a shooting percentage from the field of 72.1 percent (31-for-43) in his last four games.
Regis College (13-10, 9-7 GNAC) plays its final two regular season games on the road, starting Tuesday, Feb. 14, against Saint Joseph's College at 7:30 p.m. The Pride then face Dean next Saturday, Feb. 18, beginning at 3 p.m. in a game that could play a major role in determining who qualifies for the GNAC Tournament.
