Cam Wilkins Named GNAC Men’s Hoop Rookie of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – After averaging 20.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game during Thanksgiving week, freshman guard Cam Wilkins (Taunton, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

Last Tuesday against Framingham State, Wilkins led all players with 28 points, missing just one shot as he hit 11-of-12 field goal attempts as well as all six free throw opportunities. It was the 11th time in program history that a player made all free throw attempts with at least six chances from the charity stripe.

Sunday at Rhode Island College, he helped Regis close an 18-point deficit down to five points by scoring eight of his 12 points in the second half. Once again, Wilkins was perfect from the free throw line, going 4-for-4, plus he was 4-for-6 from the field against the Anchormen. In addition, he pulled down five rebounds and dished out two assists.

So far this season, Wilkins is averaging 13.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. He is shooting 69 percent (29-of-42) from the field, tops in the GNAC, and 79.3 percent (23-of-29) from the free throw line, currently 12th in the conference. Wilkins has made 16 free throw attempts in a row, including a three-game stretch in which he has been a perfect 15-for-15.

Wilkins becomes the first Regis men's basketball player to receive a GNAC weekly award since the Pride joined the conference for the 2017-18 season.

Regis will look to carry positive momentum into the Christmas break as it hosts Suffolk University in a non-conference contest Saturday, Dec. 7, starting at 1 p.m. at Higgins Court. The Rams bring a 3-2 record into games at Emerson Tuesday, Dec. 3, and against Lesley Thursday, Dec. 5.
