Regis Receives Team Effort in GNAC Victory over Lasell

WESTON, Mass. – Four players reached double figures in points for Regis College and six players collected at least four rebounds apiece as the Pride used its shooting and rebounding advantage to defeat Lasell College, 73-63, Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's basketball game at Higgins Court.

Jordan Seldon (Dorchester, Mass.) led the Pride with 20 points, plus he pulled down six rebounds, while Juvens Dalger (City of Sunrise, Fla.) finished with 14 points, nine rebounds, and two steals. Marc Trinidad (Bronx, N.Y.) collected 12 points, nine rebounds, and two blocked shots, Shawn Wedderburn (Bronx, N.Y.) added 11 points and five rebounds, and Devante Thompson (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) contributed five points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and two blocked shots.

Regis scored five straight points early in the first half to establish an 11-6 advantage, and then the two teams basically traded points for an extended period of time. After Stefan Masciarelli hit two free throws to pull Lasell within two at 30-28, the Pride scored 12 unanswered points in the final three minutes of the first half and the first possession of the second half to take their biggest lead of the game at 42-28.

Lasell (4-12, 2-2 GNAC) battled back, putting together a 12-2 scoring run, led by six points from Kevin Nunez, with Liam Jacobs hitting a three-pointer to close the Laser deficit to 44-40 five minutes into the second half. The Pride responded with a 7-2 scoring run over the next two minutes, starting with four points from Dalger and concluding with three points by Dimitri Rosa (Tiverton, R.I.) to extend their lead back to nine at 51-42.

After a three-pointer by Masciarelli brought the Lasers back within four at 53-49, Regis scored six straight points to increase its lead back to 10 at 59-49. A three-pointer by Dylan Murray started a 7-0 run by Lasell that brought the visitors within three at 61-58 with 4:12 remaining in the second half, but the Pride once again scored six unanswered points, punctuated by a steal and layup from Seldon, to keep Lasell at arm's length the rest of the way.

Masciarelli led the Lasers with 22 points and four assists, while Nunez collected 17 points, five rebounds, and two blocked shots before fouling out. Vic Collazo shot 6-of-9 from the field as he finished with 15 points, four rebounds, and two steals.

As a team, Lasell shot 38.3 percent (23-of-60) from the field, including 6-of-22 from the free throw line, and 73.3 percent (11-of-15) from the free throw line. The Lasers did score 17 points off 22 Regis turnovers. Lasell steps out of conference to host Tufts Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 8 p.m.

The Pride shot 47.5 percent (28-of-59) from the field, including 2-of-10 from behind the three-point line, and 68.2 percent (15-of-22) from the free throw line. Regis dominated the rebounding battle, 46-27, including 15 offensive rebounds that led to 16 second chance points for the Pride.

Regis (7-11, 2-2 GNAC) continues its homestand with another key GNAC contest, welcoming Suffolk University to Higgins Court Tuesday, Jan. 22, for a 6 p.m. tipoff. This will be the second meeting between the Pride and the Rams in two weeks, with Suffolk winning a non-conference contest Jan. 9.
