Men's Basketball Holds On For Much-Needed Win Over Norwich

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis (Mass.) men's basketball team earned a hard-fought and much needed victory, snapping a two-game skid with an 84-76 win over Norwich in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Tuesday night at Higgins Court.

Rogel Hamel (Huntington Beach, Calif.) was impressive all night, scoring 23 points on a scorching 9-11 shooting including a near perfect 5-6 in three pointers. Marc Trinidad (Bronx, N.Y.) had a career 15 points and 10 rebounds and his first double as the Pride (10-9, 7-4) put itself back in the GNAC playoff mix.

Jesse Davis (Woodinville, Wash.) led Norwich (8-10, 5-4 GNAC) with 20 points on 8-15 shooting off the bench. Ryan Booth (Northfield, Vt.) scored 17 points with Mike Hogervorst (Leiden, Netherlands) adding 15 points and five rebounds.

The Pride jumped out to an early lead on the Cadets led by back-to-back three pointers from Dimitri Rosa (Tiverton, R.I.). The lead would be short-lived, however, as Davis capped a 12-2 run with a three pointer to put Norwich up by a point.

The teams would trade leads several more times before Hamel got hot from beyond the arc, nailing consecutive three pointers to lift his team to a 10-point lead, then later nailed another from distance as time expired in the half.

Regis would lead by as many as 12 points in the second half but Norwich never gave in. Booth hit a three pointer then later converted on an and-one three-point play to cut the Regis lead to six points with 10 minutes left.

Norwich shaved the Pride lead to as little as three points but solid free throw shooting and timely buckets, including a Rosa three with 4:52 to play guided Regis to the win.

The Pride return to action Thursday. Feb. 1 with a visit to Lasell for a 7:00 p.m. start time. Norwich hosts Rivier on the same date and time.
