TAMPA, Fla. – The Regis College men's basketball team dropped a 70-63 decision to Drew University on Monday afternoon in the Consolation Game of the Tampa Bay Shootout held at Tampa Prep. Sam Jean-Gilles (Melrose, Mass.) scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds and was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Pride (2-8).

After a back-and-forth beginning to the game, the Pride grabbed a 12 point lead with 5:12 remaining in the opening half following an Osanto Marc Jr. (Kissimmee, Fla.) layup. That would be the last field goal of the half however, as Drew ended the period with a 10-0 run and only trailed 27-25 headed into the intermission.

Marc Jr. connected on a pair of three pointers and led the Pride with 10 points at the half, while Ryan Chambers (Abington, Mass.) added seven points.

Chambers later gave the Pride a 39-36 lead with 15:31 to play, but the Rangers connected on a three of their own to tie the ball game for the fifth time in the game. Drew took its first lead of the second half with 10:18 remaining, but back-to-back jumpers from Jean-Gilles and Ethan Peana (Staten Island, N.Y.) gave Regis the lead back at 49-48.

A Jean-Gilles layup with 6:02 remaining made it a 54-51 ball game nearly four minutes later, but Drew answered again, rattling off seven-straight points and taking a 58-54 advantage with 4:38 left in regulation. Marc Jr. responded with a layup, but Drew knocked down another triple to keep it a two possession game.

Chambers connected on a pair of freethrows to keep the Pride within striking distance at 63-58, but four-straight points by the Rangers kept the Pride at bay as Drew held on for the 70-63 victory.

Regis dominated the glass, holding a 37-28 advantage that included 14 offensive rebounds. Both sides committed eight turnovers, while Drew hoisted 26 three point attempts on the game and connected on nine of them.

Jean-Gilles added three steals to go with his 15 points and nine rebounds en route to the All-Tournament selection. Osanto Marc Jr. connected on 3-of-5 three pointers and led the Pride with 20 points, while Chambers added 15 points of his own in the setback. Peana chipped in six points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

The Pride return to Weston, Mass. on January 2 when Regis hosts Worcester State University in a 7:00 p.m. non-conference tilt.
