PAXTON, Mass. – Regis College took the lead late in the third period, but Anna Maria College tied the match midway through the fourth period and then connected on a goal in overtime for a 2-1 victory over the Pride Friday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference field hockey contest at AMCAT Field.

After a scoreless first half, the two teams struggled to put together scoring chances early in the third period. With less than four minutes remaining in the period, Jamie Juskiewicz (Gorham, Maine) was able to send a shot towards the net, but AMCAT goalie Hannah Tobey made the save.

Regis kept possession and induced a penalty corner opportunity. Ashley Chipman (Stoughton, Mass.) started the play and then received a pass from Amelia Thomas (Hopkinton, N.H.). Chipman converted on the ensuing shot for her second goal of the season, giving the Pride the 1-0 advantage heading into the fourth period.

The Pride had a great chance to extend their lead six minutes into the fourth period, but Tobey turned away a shot by Sheridan Blaha (Waltham, Mass.). Two minutes later, Anna Maria was granted a penalty corner, and Abigayle Celata scored the game-tying goal off an assist by Lauren Lapierre.

Regis held possession early in the overtime period and almost ended the contest, but Nora Buck (Shawmut, Maine) could not get the ball past Tobey. Even though it was playing one player down after a yellow card was issued, Anna Maria put together an offensive attack, as Lapierre found Anne Melanson in front of the net and Melanson scored the game-winning tally.

Tobey finished with four saves, as did Regis goalie Hope Winkin (Winslow, Maine). Melanson led all players with four total shots as Anna Maria outshot Regis, 12-7, while Blaha finished with three shots, including two shots on goal, to lead the Pride.

Regis (3-7, 0-3 GNAC) continues its stretch of four straight road matches next week at Eastern Connecticut State Wednesday, Oct. 9, and at Lasell next Saturday, Oct. 12. The Pride opens a four-match homestand Thursday, Oct. 17, against Mount Holyoke College.
