FRANKLIN, Mass. – Regis College took control early and maintained it throughout the vast majority of the contest, defeating Dean College 6-0 Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference collegiate field hockey match at Grant Field.
Sheridan Blaha (Waltham, Mass.) struck first just two minutes into the contest off an assist by Nora Buck (Shawmut, Maine) to put the Pride on the board. Later in the first period, Blaha was able to fight through a scrum and send the ball over the goal line.
Early in the second period, Regis drew a penalty corner and applied the pressure on the Dean defense, as Joslyn O'Brien (Petersham, Mass.) corralled her own missed shot and connected on the rebound for her second goal of the season.
With three-and-a-half minutes remaining in the second period, Blaha followed up on a missed shot to notch her second hat trick of the season, giving the Pride a 4-0 halftime advantage. Midway through the third period, Blaha redirected a ball from Hope Celli (Pembroke, Mass.) into the net for her fourth goal of the day, and then Celli scored a goal of her own shortly thereafter.
Dean (1-7) was unable to create any offensive chances, as the Bulldogs were held without a shot or a penalty corner opportunity. Alexis Masse made 13 saves and Jordyn McKenney added a defensive save for Dean as Regis was credited with 32 total shots, including 20 shots on goal, plus the Pride were granted 13 penalty corner chances.
Blaha led the Pride with 12 total shots, including eight shots on goal, and now has the second-most goals in a single season in program history with 11. She is two goals away from the school record of 13 set by Aineen Callahan in 2016.
Regis (3-6) returns to Great Northeast Athletic Conference action with an important match at Anna Maria Friday, Oct. 4, starting at 4 p.m., in a contest originally scheduled for Saturday morning. The Pride are in the midst of four straight road contests, not playing at home again until Thursday, Oct. 17, against Mount Holyoke.
