SALEM, Mass. – The Regis College field hockey team fell to the Salem State Vikings, 4-1, Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field.
After 8:15 of play in the first quarter, Salem State's Jillian Danton struck for the first goal of the contest when Allison Couillard and Casie Curtin set up Danton off a set piece that passed by the Pride netminder.
Joslyn O'Brien (Petersham, Mass.) registered a defensive save after a shot by Couillard snuck past Hope Winkin (Winslow, Maine). Audrey Dalton scored off a pass from Melanie Mason in the 22nd minute of the match, giving the Vikings the 2-0 halftime lead.
With 5:05 remaining in the third quarter Ashley Chipman (Stoughton, Mass.), after battling in front of the Viking net, scored her first goal of the year, bringing the Pride within one.
In the fourth quarter, Salem State found the back of the net twice with Danton and Curtin both finding the net for the fourth time this season.
Salem State held the edge in penalty corners 11-6 while also edging out the Pride in shots 7-3.
Salem State (4-2, 0-1 LEC) will be off until Saturday, Sept. 21 when they travel to take on the Lancers of Worcester State in a Little East Conference match.
Regis (1-4, 0-1 GNAC) plays New England College on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. in Henniker, N.H. after the administrations at New England College and Regis agreed to change the location. Manhattanville will play the Pride at Regis Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m., with former players welcome on Alumni Day.
