Field Hockey Earns First Win of 2019 Season

WESTON, Mass. – Led by freshman Sheridan Blaha (Waltham, Mass.), Regis College picked up its first win of the 2019 season, cruising to a 7-0 victory over Framingham State Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference collegiate field hockey match at Regis Stadium.

The two teams exchanged shots early in the first quarter, but the match remained scoreless until the final minute of the opening period. Jamie Juskiewicz (Gorham, Maine) found Nora Buck (Shawmut, Maine), and Buck converted on a shot for the first collegiate goal of her career.

Early in the second quarter, Regis drew a penalty corner, and Blaha picked up her first goal of the contest off an assist by Mary Costantino (Abington, Mass.). After the Pride prevented the Rams from taking advantage of two penalty corner opportunities, Juskiewicz found Blaha for her second goal of the match, increasing the Regis lead to 3-0.

A shot by Hope Celli (Pembroke, Mass.) six minutes into the quarter was stopped by Ram goalie Grace Pushor, but Regis drew a penalty corner attempt. Two shots were blocked and a third one was saved by Pushor, but Blaha finally converted on another rebound, completing her hat trick and giving the Pride a 4-0 advantage heading into halftime.

Blaha struck one more time midway through the third quarter, this time off an assist by Amelia Thomas (Hopkinton, N.H.). Less than two minutes later, Thomas corralled the rebound off her own shot and sent the ball into the net for her first career goal.

Four minutes into the fourth quarter, off another penalty corner opportunity, Joslyn O'Brien (Petersham, Mass.) set up Celli for her first goal of the season. Regis was able to maintain possession through most of the remaining time on the clock, taking three more shots while not allowing the Rams to put together any offense.

Framingham State (1-2) finished with seven shots, including three shots on goal that were stopped by Regis goalie Hope Winkin (Winslow, Maine). The Pride were credited with 22 shots, eight of them by Blaha, as Pushor ended up with 10 saves.

Regis (1-2) begins Great Northeast Athletic Conference play by traveling to Standish, Maine, to face preseason favorite Saint Joseph's College Saturday, Sept. 14, starting at 11 a.m. The Pride next plays at home Saturday, Sept. 21, against Manhattanville at 2 p.m.
