Sheridan Blaha Receives GNAC Rookie of Week Honors

WINTHROP, Mass. – Freshman forward Sheridan Blaha (Waltham, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Field Hockey Rookie of the Week after her performances in two matches last week, announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

Blaha led the Regis offense in the season opener at Becker last Tuesday. She took the most shots of any player in the match with six total shots, including three shots on goal. In the final minute of regulation, she drew a penalty stroke opportunity and converted on the attempt for her first career collegiate goal. Blaha also played the entire match against Western Connecticut State Saturday afternoon.

"The coaching staff has been very happy with Sheridan's play over the first two weeks of the season," said Annie Villare, Regis field hockey head coach. "Sheridan's explosiveness and energy on the field has not gone unnoticed in our first two competitions. We are excited to have her here at Regis and look forward to watching her excel over the next four years."

Blaha becomes the third Regis field hockey player to receive GNAC Rookie of the Week honors since the Pride joined the conference in 2017. She is the first Pride player to earn a weekly award of any kind from the league since Hope Winkin (Winslow, Maine) was named GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week Sept. 10, 2018.

Regis (0-2) is scheduled to return to action Wednesday, Sept. 11, hosting Framingham State at Regis Stadium.
