Callahan Notches Hat Trick, Becomes Regis All-Time Goals Leader

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Aineen Callahan (Diamond Point, N.Y.) notched a hat trick, including the 30th goal of her collegiate career to become Regis's all-time leader in goals, but time ran out on the Pride's comeback attempt, as Simmons held on for a 4-3 victory Tuesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference field hockey contest at Daly Field.

After scoring in the first half to tie the record, Callahan set up in front of the goal, received a pass from Sarah Tetrault (North Easton, Mass.), and converted the scoring chance five minutes into the second half for her 30th career goal, passing Caitlin Connolly for the lead on the school's career goals list. She would complete the hat trick in the final minute on a breakaway where she beat Simmons goalie Lucy McNamara on a one-on-one situation.

Simmons (5-10, 3-2 GNAC) jumped on the board just over four minutes into the match as Olivia Trull send a crossing pass right in front of the goal. Adrianna Fournier moved to the right post and slipped the ball into the goal to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead.

The action stayed in the middle of the field until the 28th minute when Regis put together a serious scoring opportunity. After a shot by Ashley Chipman (Stoughton, Mass.) was turned away by McNamara, Regis drew a penalty corner. The Pride moved the ball around, with Kiana Koke (Queensbury, N.Y.) finding Callahan for the game-tying goal.

The Sharks controlled the possession late in the first half, eventually drawing a penalty corner in the 33rd minute. Maggie Fuzak sent a crossing pass from the left side into the box, where Hannah Scott was able to corral it and send it into the goal to put Simmons back on top. Just 32 seconds later, Fuzak set up Trull for a goal, giving the home team a 3-1 lead at halftime.

Just as they did in the first half, the Sharks scored very early in the second half, as Emily Plummer set up Meghan Fontaine for her first goal of the season just over three-and-a-half minutes after the start of the half.

McNamara's only save came on Chipman's shot, but it was enough for her to pick up the victory as Simmons outshot Regis, 14-5. Hope Winkin (Winslow, Maine) played the entire match in goal for the Pride, collecting five saves as she attempted to keep her team in the contest.

Regis (2-10, 1-5 GNAC) spends the rest of the regular season at home, starting with a rescheduled contest Thursday night, Oct. 18, against Dean starting at 7 p.m. The Pride will then host Lasell on Senior Day Saturday, Oct. 20, at 4 p.m. before finishing the 2018 schedule against Eastern Connecticut State next Thursday, Oct. 25, at 4:30 p.m.
