Field Hockey Unable to Take Down GNAC Favorite

WESTON, Mass.- Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) preseason favorite Saint Joseph's (Me.) was able to get past the Regis College field hockey team early Saturday afternoon, 9-0, at Regis Stadium.

The Pride were able to stay with the reigning conference champions in the first half. The Monks scored in the 20th minute of action to go up, 1-0. The half ended with Saint Joseph's going into the break with the 3-0 lead after two more goals.

Saint Joseph's (6-0, 2-0 GNAC) scored three goals in the first 3:06 of the second half to double its advantage to 6-0. Just over eight minutes later, the Monks would score two more goals in the span of three-and-a-half minutes to increase their lead to 8-0.

The final goal of the game would come when Meghan Hill scored in the 57th minute, closing out the scoring. Three different goalies combined for the shutout for the Monks, while Regis's Hope Winkin (Winslow, Maine) made 11 saves and Erin Moore (Rosedale, Md.) was credited with four saves in relief.

Regis (1-4, 1-1 GNAC) is back in action Tuesday, Sept. 18, when they will take on Dean College in a 7 p.m. match at Regis Stadium.
