DANBURY, Conn. – The Regis field hockey team was unable to topple Western Connecticut State in the opening tilt of the 2018 season, losing 4-0.
The first goal of the game was scored in the eighth minute, when Morgan Matthews snuck one by Hope Winkin (Winslow, Maine). A second goal would come from Nora Swift after Kimberly Brower fed her the ball.
In the second half, Matthews would score two more in order to secure herself a hat trick. Winkin would be a bright spot with a 60 percent save percentage, recording six saves in the process. Kiana Koke (Queensbury, N.Y.) chipped in with a defensive save of her own.
The Pride will play again Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Framingham State starting at 7 p.m., while Western Connecticut State will travel to William Paterson University on Sunday. Regis will open its home slate Thursday, Sept. 6, against Becker beginning at 7 p.m.
