Field Hockey Falls To Mount Ida On Senior Day

WESTON, Mass. – A win and the Pride would have qualified next week's Great Northeast Athletics Conference Tournament, but that was not in the cards as the Regis (Mass.) field hockey team fell 1-0 to Mount Ida Saturday at Regis Stadium.

Both teams wrapped up their regular season with Regis (7-8, 2-5 GNAC) now needing several results to go its way from other games around the league. With the win, Mount Ida (9-7, 3-4 GNAC) sealed a spot in the league tournament.

Lexi Minicucci (Westfield, Mass.) notched the lone goal of the match. She took a pass from Sara Hemstock (Northford, Conn.) and knocked it past Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) to put her team up 1-0.

Mount Ida continued to pepper the Pride goal the next several minutes but Malcolm was equal to the task time and again. Regis would get its best chance of the half with less than four minutes remaining in the period. Ashley Chipman (Stoughton, Mass.) dribbled into space and had a bid on goal but Grace Ryan (Livermoore Falls, Maine) made a sliding save in goal to keep the scoresheet clean for Mount Ida.

Malcolm made five saves in goal for the Pride with Ryan tallying four

Mount Ida looked prime for an insurance goal, playing in front of the Regis goal for much of the later part of the second half but the Pride had a few last gasps to even the scoreline. Aineen Callahan's (Diamond Point, N.Y.) shot just feet from the goal was cleared off the line and the clock ticked down for  the end of regulation.
