Field Hockey Blanked By Colby-Sawyer

WESTON, Mass.Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) posted a season-high 13 saves but it came in a loss as the Regis (Mass.) field hockey team fell to Colby-Sawyer 2-0 in non-conference action Wednesday night at Regis Stadium. The Pride fell to 7-7 while the Chargers improved to 9-6.

The first half ended with a scoreless draw as neither team was able to score despite both having several chances on goal, though more so for Colby-Sawyer. Malcolm came up big during the half, posting several saves including back-to-back strikes from Sierra Schuster (Hopkinton, N.H.).

Malcolm would come up big to start the second half as well, lunging for a loose ball in front of the goal to foil another Charger scoring opportunity.

CS would finally break through after several chances on goal. Malcolm made two stellar saves but Julia Lanctot (Sandown, N.H.) scored on the second rebound to put her team up 1-0 in the 49th minute.

The Pride attempted to mount an attack down the stretch but were unable to do so as CS notched a late insurance goal from Paige Viens (Middlebury, Vt.).

Colby-Sawyer outshot the Pride 19-2 with Charger goalie Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) not having to deal with a Pride shot on goal.

The Pride returns to Great Northeast Athletic Conference play for its season finale, hosting Mount Ida on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 11:00 a.m. for Senior Day. Colby-Sawyer plays the same day versus Thomas.
