Field Hockey Blanked By Lasell In GNAC Action

NEWTON, Mass. - It was a tough afternoon for the Regis (Mass.) field hockey team who fell 4-0 to first-place Lasell College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play Saturday at Grellier Field.

With the loss, the Pride (7-6, 2-4 GNAC) fall into a log jam for the final three spots in the GNAC Tournament. With six teams qualifying for postseason play, Regis, Mount Ida, Anna Maria and Johnson & Wales (RI) all hold 2-4 league records. With one game remaining for each, including a pivotal Regis vs. Mount Ida match next Saturday, one team will get left out in the cold.

Erin Murray (Lexington, Mass.) ignited the offensive surge for the Lasers, finishing a pass of the corner in the 6th minute.

Reigning GNAC Player of the Week, Nikki Pignone (Ipswich, Mass.) scored her first of two goals on the afternoon in the 11th minute of play, giving the Lasers a 2-0 lead. Samantha Taylor (Hanover, Mass.) scored the Lasers third goal of the game in the 25th minute, as Lasell held a 3-0 advantage heading into halftime.

The Lasers outshot the Pride 27-3 in the victory, including 13-1 in the first half.

Denise Landry (New Milford, Conn.) and Brianna Kulvete (Templeton, Mass.) split time in net for the Lasers, each recording a save. Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) recorded 12 saves in the loss for Regis.

Prior to the Pride's regular season and conference finale vs Mount Ida, Regis hosts Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 7:00 p.m.
