Field Hockey Too Much For Becker In Non-Conference Tilt

LEICESTER, Mass.Ashley Chipman (Stoughton, Mass.) scored a pair of goals to lead the Regis (Mass.) field hockey team to a 6-2 win over Becker College in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field

Regis (3-4) got on the board six minutes into the game when freshman forward Jamie Juskiewicz (Gorham, Maine) took a pass from junior midfielder Alycia LeConche (Simsbury, Conn.) and finished to put the visitors up 1-0. In the 17th minute, Regis senior forward Emily McDonald (Plymouth, Mass.) scored, assisted by senior forward Hailee Forest (Amherst, N.H.) as the Pride went up by two. Two-and-a-half minutes later, Chipman added another goal as Regis took a commanding 3-0 lead.

Becker (0-8) fought to get back in the game when, in the 22nd minute, sophomore midfielder Katherine Bernier (Dudley, Mass.) scored unassisted for the first goal of her collegiate career, pulling the hosts to within two goals at 3-1. Regis closed out the first half with another score when Yvonne Abate (Easton, Mass.) found Chipman for another score, and the Pride went into the break leading 4-1.

In the second half, Abate wasted no time extending the Regis lead, scoring her second goal of the season unassisted in the 37th minute. In the 44th minute, Regis sophomore Mary Costantino (Abington, Mass.) put the Pride up 6-1 with her second goal of the season 

Becker junior goalkeeper Alexis Barry (Manchester, N.H.) finished the day with five saves. Regis senior goalkeeper Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) tallied three stops in 54 minutes. The Pride outshot the Hawks, 18-6.

Regis is next in action Thursday hosting Wheelock College at 4:00 p.m. Becker will be back on the field on Thursday as well when they go crosstown to face Clark University in a 6:00 p.m. matchup.
