Cattaruzza Scores Two as Regis Field Hockey Shuts Out Bay Path

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) field hockey team got goals from four different players on Wednesday night on its way to defeating Bay Path University by a score of 5-0.

Pride sophomore Mackenzie Cattaruzza (Guilford, Conn.) opened the scoring on the evening when she netted her third goal of the season in the sixth minute. Off a penalty corner, senior midfielder Jenna Casello (Westborough, Mass.) found Cattaruzza alone in front for the goal.

Cattaruzza scored her second of the game in the 16th minute. The forward got away from the defense running down the right hand side of the field, before freezing Bay Path goalkeeper Bethany Rogers (Plymouth, Mass.) with a rocket into the bottom left corner of the net.

Just under three and a half minutes later, junior defender Emily McDonald (Plymouth, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season to extend the Pride's lead to three goals. Off a scramble, McDonald cleaned up a rebound off a shot by Kelsey Morton (South Portland, Maine) to give the Pride a 3-0 going into the half.

Pride freshman Ashley Chipman (Stoughton, Mass.) scored just 12 seconds into the second half for her fifth goal of the season. The rookie stole a Bay Path pass right off the whistle and walked down the field before beating Rogers for the goal.

Morton scored an insurance goal with just over 12 minutes remaining to stretch the advantage to five. The senior's third goal of the season came when she stick handled into the top of the area from the right side and fired it into the net past a frozen Rogers.

Regis goalkeeper Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J) earned the win for the Pride, making a pair of saves in 63:48 of action. She was relieved in the 64th minute by sophomore Erin Moore (Rosedale, Md.), who preserved the shutout. In the loss, Bay Path's Rogers made six saves.

Next up for the Pride, they'll host Daniel Webster on Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. The Wildcats will play Becker on Saturday in their next match for an NECC showdown.
