WESTON, Mass. – Fueled by three different goal scorers, the Regis College field hockey team cruised to a 3-0 victory over New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) opponent Bay Path College on Saturday afternoon. The Pride capture their third consecutive win and move to 6-10 overall, 4-1 in league play, while Bay Path drops to 2-10, 2-2 NECC.
Regis first got on the scoreboard at the 17:48 mark off a goal from junior Becka Sarson (York, Maine). Freshman midfielder Sam Anderson (Sandwich, Mass.) fed the ball from the right side to the back post, where a wide open Sarson was able to one-time the ball into the goal for the 1-0 lead.
The Pride added another with just over three minutes remaining in the first half. After a scramble for the ball in front of the Bay Path net, junior midfielder Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.) smacked a high shot that found its way past sophomore goalkeeper Anna Meyer (Millbrook, N.Y.) for the 2-0 lead, which Regis carried into halftime. Anderson was credited with her second assist of the day on the goal.
Senior Christine O'Toole (Boston, Mass.) put the game out of reach in the 53rd minute of play after she scored the third and final goal of the game. A shot by senior Stacy Burns (Waltham, Mass.) was initially saved by Meyer, but O'Toole pounced on the rebound and hammered a high shot into the back of the net.
The Pride outshot Bay Path by a 31-1 margin on the day and held a 14-2 advantage on penalty corners.
The Wildcats were paced by Meyer's 19 save performance and senior midfielder Ruth Choate (Lewiston, Maine), who took the lone shot of the game for Bay Path. Sophomore defender Elizabeth Deane (Agawam, Mass.) also had a solid game for the Wildcats, pitching in with two defensive saves.
Both teams wrap up the regular season next Saturday, Oct. 26. The Wildcats will face Becker on the road for a 10 a.m. game, while the Pride will host Elms at 12 p.m.
