PRIDE WIN NECC OPENER OVER BECKER

LEICESTER, Mass. – The Regis College field hockey team defeated Becker College, 1-0 in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) opener for both squads on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. The win lifts the Pride's record to 3-9 overall (1-0 NECC), while the Hawks remain winless at 0-13 (0-1 NECC).

The lone goal of the game came in the 15th minute when sophomore forward Melinda Sutton (Eliot, Maine) came off the bench to score her first goal of the season. Regis goalkeeper Raegan Heck (Phillipston, Mass.) made three stops to earn her second shutout of the season.

The Pride outshot the Hawks, 24-6 during the game. Forwards Becka Sarson (York, Maine) and Christine O'Toole (Boston, Mass.) led Regis with four shots apiece.

Becker goalies Samantha-Jo Dilkes (Little Falls, N.J.) and Gabrielle Gallo (Northport, N.Y.) split the game in net, turning away three shots each.

Both teams return to action on Tuesday, October 8. Regis will host NECC rival Anna Maria at 6:00 p.m., while Becker travels to Elms College at 4:00 p.m.
