PAPPAS PUTS PRIDE ON PACE TO WIN WITH SECOND HALF GOAL

PAXTON, Mass. (09.25.10) – The Regis College field hockey team overcame a 1-0 half time deficit to defeat Anna Maria College by a score of 2-1 during a The Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup at AMCAT Field on Saturday afternoon. The win marked the first TCCC victory of the season for the Pride, who improve to 2-6 (1-2 TCCC) on the year, while the loss drops the AMCATS to 1-7 (0-3 TCCC).

The AMCATS got on the board early when senior Mary Anne McLaughlin (Wallingford, Conn.) redirected a perfect feed from fellow senior Emily Nugent (Worcester, Mass.) passed the Regis goalkeeper in the second minute of action.

The AMCATS held on to the 1-0 advantage into the second half, until Regis freshman Lori Chin (Saint Ann, Jamaica) set up freshman Christine O'Toole (Wareham, Mass.) to tie the score in the 50th minute.

With the two teams still knotted at one in the 60th minute, RC junior Torie Pappas (Niantic, Conn.) collected her own rebound in front of the goal and knocked in the go-ahead, and eventual game-winning score.

Each team took 13 shots during the game, with both goalkeepers playing well. AMC's Allyssa Boykin (Worcester, Mass.) made 10 saves on the day, while Regis's Morgan Mitchell (Ashburnham, MA) turned away seven shots to earn the win in net for the Pride.

Both teams return to the field on Tuesday, with the Pride hosting Rivier at 5:00 PM and the AMCATS hitting the road to face Calrk at 7:00 PM.
