PRIDE FALL 11-0 TO NOR'EASTERS

PRIDE FALL 11-0 TO NOR'EASTERS

Weston, Mass.-The Regis College field hockey team would fall to the Nor'easters of the University Of New England College 11-0.

The Pride would put forth a solid effort as they attempted to halt the storming Nor'easters attack. The Pride would only get a couple attempts at the net for the entire game, as sophomore Victoria Pappas (Niantic, Conn.) would take a shot at the net in the closing minutes before being denied by UNE.  Senior Maria Pino (Revere, Mass.) would be the only other Regis player to take a shot at the net towards the end of the game, but would be off far right.

Freshman Sara Ankerud (Groton, Mass.) again would put on a tremendous effort in front of the net, as she has been showing all year.  Although the ending result was a loss, Ankerud would end the game with 23 total saves.  Ankerud now has a total of 84 saves on the season, with six games remaining in the season.

For the game the Nor'easters would outshoot the Pride 43-2 by the end of regulation.

The University of New England would open up the first half strong, and would not slow down the attack, as the Pride played a man down for the entire game.  Junior Michaela Franey (York, Maine) would open up the score board, and would get the game-winning goal within the fifth minute, which was assisted by sophomore Brianna Tupper (Winthrop, Maine).  This goal would be her only one of the game but would end the game with a contribution of one assist. To end the half, freshman forward Krystal Sleboda (Smithfield, RI) would put one in the back of the net in the 16th minute to give the Nor'easters their seventh and final goal at the half.

At the half, the Nor'easters would be up on the Pride 7-0.

Tupper could not be stopped as she would end with four goals on the game, with the final goal being in the 58th minute to ice the score.  Tupper would also contribute with two assists on the game.

The Pride began to show some life in the second half, and cut their streak of goals being fired, as they hammered down on defense to not allow the ball to get through as easy.

Senior forward Taryn Flagg (Livemore Falls, Maine) would include two goals into the mix, as she would also end with an assist at the end of the game.  Senior captain Anne Cowles (Francponia, NH) would display her skill and experience on the field, as she would end with three goals and two assist.

The Pride would fall to 0-7 overall, 0-3 in the conference, as the University of New England College would move up to 6-2 overall, and 3-1 in the conference.  The Pride will host the AMCATS of Anna Maria, on October 10, 2009 at 10:00 am.  Regis will be looking forward to get a victory in this next matchup, but it will take team work and a great deal of effort to come out victorious.
