NO THANKSGIVING FOR PRIDE, REGIS FALLS TO PILGRIMS 9-0

Weston, Mass.-The Regis College field hockey team would fall to the Pilgrims of New England College 9-0.

The Pride would show tremendous effort throughout the game, as they would come close to scoring multiple times, but just could not finish.  Senior captain Maria Mendes (Brockton, Mass.) would be the only Regis play to get any attempt at the net.

The Pilgrims would not put any brakes on in their attack against the Regis defenders.  Freshman midfielder Miranda Tinsman (Belgrade, Maine) would go on to score the first and game-winning goal in the fourth minute, putting New England College up 1-0 early in the game.  Next goal would come from junior forward Kate Carnaroli (Bellingham, Mass.) in the eighth minute which was unassisted.  Shortly after that play, was followed by a goal in the 13th minute by junior forward Samantha Escobar (Rumney, NH).  Escobar would go on to score another goal in the 25th minute of regulation. 

New England College would put up six goals at the half, before contributing with three more goals in the second half.

New England College had no intention on pulling back, as they would continue their scoring spree on the Pride.  Senior midfielder Khatianna Evans (Wayne, Maine) would also contribute with her only goal of the game in the 23rd minute.  Tinsman would also continue her aggressiveness on the offensive side with two more goals in the second period, both were assisted by Carnaroli and Escobar.  Freshman forward Emily Kuchta (Norwalk, Conn.) would score a goal as well to put the Pilgrims up by a large margin.

To finalize the strong attack of the Pilgrims was a goal by Hilary O'Brien (North Reading, Mass.) which was assisted by Alicia Bartosik (Hoosick Falls, NY) in the 55th minute.

Freshman Sara Ankerud (Groton, Mass.) would put on a blocking clinic in front of the net, obtaining 31 saves in the game.

The Pride would fall to 0-6 overall, 0-2 in the conference, as New England College would move to 6-3 overall, and 2-0 in the conference.  The Pride will host Gordon on October 3, 2009 at 12:00 pm.
