Regis Athletics to Celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College athletics department will be sponsoring a series of events celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD), to be observed nationwide Wednesday, Feb. 5.

Regis' NGWSD events commence Thursday, Jan. 30, with a play day in the Athletics Center joining Pride student-athletes with youngsters from the Regis Children's Center. The activities will be centered within the gymnasium starting at approximately 1:15 p.m.

On Saturday, Feb. 1, Regis Athletics invites all young girls to join in pregame activities leading up to the women's basketball game against University of Saint Joseph. The activities start at 11:30 a.m., with the girls invited to join the team on the court for pregame introductions and the National Anthem before tipoff.

The on-campus celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day will be capped Tuesday, Feb. 4, by a visit from Noelle Lambert. Lambert was a member of the lacrosse team at UMass Lowell who lost her left leg in a moped accident, but worked to return to the field with a prosthetic leg.

Lambert used her experience to create the Born to Run Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing child amputees with a specific prosthetic that will allow them to run again. During her visit to Regis, she will talk about her experience as a student-athlete and the impact sports has had on her life. All are welcome to attend her presentation Feb. 4 starting at 12:30 p.m. in College Hall 202 on campus.

The Regis College athletics department sponsors 20 varsity sports within NCAA Division III, competing as a full member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC). The athletics department emphasizes academic excellence, commitment to service, competition on the national level, and the principles of good sportsmanship.
