New Weight Room Welcome Addition for Regis Athletics

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College athletics department officially opened the new weight room within the Regis Athletics Center.

The weight room was constructed within a space previously used as a dance studio. With the new room, strength and conditioning sessions can now involve more student-athletes at the same time, making it easier for coaches to conduct multiple workouts within a single room.

"In the competitive landscape of NCAA Division III collegiate athletics and the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, we believe that this weight room, in combination with all of our other on-campus athletic facilities, is a difference-maker for our program," Pam Roecker, Dean of Athletics at Regis College, said. "The credit for this renovation goes to our strength & conditioning coach Renato Capobianco for his dedicated leadership on this project, and to all of our friends that supported Regis Athletics through their participation in our annual golf outing."

Capobianco, the strength and conditioning coach at Regis as well as the men's soccer head coach, has envisioned a room devoted to workouts for several years. He played a significant role in the planning and design of the room, which was completed thanks to the generosity of Regis supporters at events such as the annual golf tournament this past summer.

According to Capobianco, the new weight room features Perform Better extreme half-cages, Keiser Infinity functional trainers, Perform Better foam plyo boxes, and brand new dumbbells, Olympic plates, trap bars, and safety squat bars. The room also includes Ecore athletic ultratile flooring.

Kara Kolomitz, Vice-President of Undergraduate Student Affairs and Enrollment, joined the Pride athletics administration and staff for a ceremonial ribbon-cutting ceremony. Besides Capobiano and Roecker, remarks were given by Ron LeClair, Assistant Athletic Director and Head Athletic Trainer, and Dan LaFlamme, a senior on the Regis track and field team.

Regis College is a Division III member of the NCAA, sponsoring 20 varsity sports competing within the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
