Pride Garners Four NECC Weekly Awards

ATTLEBORO, Mass. - For the second consecutive week, four student-athletes from Regis (Mass.) athletics have received New England Collegiate Conference weekly awards. The men's tennis team, swept the weekly honors for the second straight week, while freshman Madi McLellan (Fremont, N.H.) of the softball team won her second consecutive NECC Pitcher of the Week award and freshman Kerri Anselmo (Natick, Mass.) won her fifth Rookie of the Week honor of the season.

From the men's tennis team, freshman Nolan Bebarta (Danville, Calif.) received the conference's Rookie of the Week award for the second consecutive week, while junior Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) was named NECC Player of the Week. Both players were 3-0 on the week between singles and doubles, while Harrow dropped just one set in singles play and none in doubles. The tandem helped lead the team to a 2-0 week.

McLellan continued her blazing start to the season, earning her second NECC Pitcher of the Week award in as many weeks. McLellan threw an impressive 16 shutout innings on the week, allowing just 10 hits and striking out 16 to go 3-0 on the week. McLellan was also credited with the save in a win over Southern Vermont on Thursday. McLellan currently leads the conference with an ERA of 1.22 and has not allowed an opponent to cross the plate in her last 20 innings pitched.

After missing out on the honor for the first time in four weeks last week, Anselmo reclaimed the honor of women's lacrosse Rookie of the Week this week. In the Pride's only game, Anselmo netted the game-winner in overtime, as the Pride topped Wheelock 12-11 in extra time to stay unbeaten in conference play. Anselmo led all scorers with four goals on the evening, saving her performance for when it mattered most, as each of her goals came in the final 13:34 of regulation or later, leading her team to the win.

Each of the teams represented in this week's weekly honors will be back in action this week, starting with the men's tennis team and women's lacrosse teams on Tuesday afternoon. Men's tennis hosts Lesley at 4:30 p.m., while women's lacrosse travels to Becker for a 4:00 p.m. start.
