Four Receive NECC Weekly Awards

ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Four student-athletes from Regis (Mass.) athletic teams have received weekly awards from the New England Collegiate Conference.

The men's tennis team swept the awards for the week as senior Jarid Polley (North Reading, Mass.) won Player of the Week and freshman Nolan Bebarta (Danville, Calif.) won Rookie of the Week. Freshman Madi McLellan (Fremont, N.H.) of the softball team was named the conference's Pitcher of the Week, while Brian Wagner (Melrose, Mass.) capped the Pride's awards by winning the men's lacrosse Rookie of the Week.

Polley caps a historic week with his first Player of the Week honor of the 2017 season. The senior went a perfect 4-0 in singles and doubles play combined last, tying the all-time Regis program record in career singles wins with 55. Polley also set the all-time record in school history for doubles wins on Sunday by recording his 54th victory.

Bebarta, too, went a perfect 4-0 in last week's action, going 2-0 in both doubles and singles play. The freshman didn't lose a single point in doubles play, while only losing three in two matches at second singles. The award is Bebarta's first weekly honor of the season.

McLellan showed no signs of rust as her team returned to the field for the first time in four weeks over the weekend, and the freshman was crucial in the Pride taking three of four games to open NECC play. The rookie made three starts, going 2-1 on the weekend and allowing just 12 hits and two earned runs in 20 innings pitched while striking out 29. McLellan's strong week included a complete game one-hitter against Lesley on Sunday, in which the lone hit came on a bunt single, and a 14-strikeout performance in a shutout of Mitchell. The award is McLellan's first of the season.

Wagner rounded out the Pride's awards for the week, after an impressive all-around week culminated in the rookie's first collegiate goal on Saturday in a win over Wheelock. Wagner had points in each of the Pride's three games on the week, for a total of one goal and four assists. Additionally, he scooped up 10 ground balls and won 12-of-15 faceoffs to lead the Pride to Saturday's big win.

Each team will return to action this week, with softball and men's tennis starting it off by hosting Wheelock and Salem State, respectively, on Tuesday evening.
